We're home

We were finally able to leave the hospital yesterday. They were able to rule out strep or any infection of the blood which is great news! He still had some type of infection, so we have to continue antibiotics, but luckily we can do that from home. Oliver seems happy and healthy and is doing really well.
Actually since we got home he has been sleeping great!!! He has been going 3 hours between eating instead of the 1 1/2 or 2 that has been the norm since he was born. It's been REALLY nice, especially at night!
I'm know that even scary bad things happen for a reason. While I of course didn't want this to happen, it gave me and Oliver some much needed bonding, alone time. I didn't get that when he was born and now I see how important it is. I hate to admit this, but the truth is, I haven't really felt very connected to Oliver (until now). He didn't have a name until he was two days old, and I've found myself continuing to call him "baby brother" or even "the other one" (ouch!) I was even still wondering if we had chosen the right name for him. I know that sounds horrible, but it's the truth.
I am so grateful for the past 3 days of getting to spend complete uninterpreted time with Oliver and my love for him has deepened infinitely. He is so strong and I know that he is an amazing spirit and is going to teach me so much. And now, I have no trouble just calling him Oliver.

New Years in the Hospital

Tuesday morning Oliver ran a fever of 101, which for a 5 week old is pretty serious. We took him to the pediatrician, and it was decided to take him to the hospital. They needed to run some tests to rule out anything serious. They told us that they needed to keep him for 48 hours. It looked like everything was fine and we thought we would be going home this morning, but last night the culture for strep came back positive. They aren't sure if it's a false positive, so they want to run the test again. So we have to be here for 2 more days.

Oliver seems to be feeling much better though. His fever went down after a day and he seems to be healthy and happy. It looks like whatever infection caused his fever was caught early and we've been treating him with antibiotics. If the test turns out to be positive, we have to stay here and will just continue the antibiotics for a week.

So we sit. We wait.

We wish you all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!

Christmas 2009

We had a wonderful Christmas at home. Jerry had to work, but at least he didn't have to leave until after lunch. I made a delicious meal of turkey, stuffing, orange rolls, mashed potato's and gravy, salad, and sparkling cider.

We were all spoiled. We are so blessed to have each other to get some fun stuff too!!

Jonah is a pro at opening gifts!

Reading books with daddy. (I love how they sit the same way:))

Jonah's haul. He was totally spoiled by us, Santa, and grandparents!

He loved is bike so much, he had to hold on to it while eating.

Jerry and I decorated Christmas cookies before he had to go to work.
